Wedding at Koro Sun, Fiji

Jason and Alexis’ ceremony was held among the spectacular and majestic ancient trees of Koro Sun’s lush forest. They kept us dry and made us forget about the rain. In Fiji they say that it’s a blessing when it rains on your wedding day. It didn’t stop me documenting the day and we created moody-romantic-dramatic images at sunset.

Alexis shares about her day:

How did you and Jason meet?

Jason and I met through Match.com and it was truly a story of love at first sight, especially for him, lol! I was on the site for about 5 months and had been on several dates and was still looking for mister right. He had literally only been on the site for maybe a week or two and not been on any dates. I saw a picture of him with all of his tattoos and just said “hello tattoos” and that was all it took for him ask me out on a date. Our first date was on Cinco De Mayo and we went to the festival in downtown Portland. He was so incredibly sweet, polite and old fashioned.

He asked if he could hold my hand at first while we were walking around and then he asked if he could kiss me goodnight, and of course I couldn’t say no! From that night on we have been inseparable!

How and why did you choose Koro Sun Fiji for your venue? How was your experience with them regarding the wedding?

We found Koro Sun through our travel Agent Jamie. He was such a tremendous help and really wouldn’t have been able to plan a destination wedding without his help.

He did all the leg work of research and found several resorts in Fiji for us to look at with different price points and amenities and wedding packages. Koro Sun seemed to have the best all around package, price point and resort amenities that we needed and wanted for the guests that we had coming.

Our experience with them was amazing. They were so incredibly welcoming and accommodating, I really can’t recommend them enough. They really went out of their way make my wedding day special.

Who was your hair dresser and make up artist? How and why did you choose him?

Hair and make was by Felicia. He was recommended by the resort and he did a great job! he came with his assistant.

Can you describe your experience with Anais Photography?

We Had such a pleasant and pleasurable experience with Anais. She made my husband and I feel so incredibly comfortable and was able to capture some amazing pictures even though it was pouring down rain. She made communicating our wants and needs from the the states before the wedding super easy. I’m so glad I was able to find her!

Do you have any advice to give to the brides who are organizing their wedding in Fiji?

First of all, if they have to be 100% in charge of everything a destination wedding is probably not for them. Clear communication via email is key, because for the average person planning a destination wedding, they are not able to visit the location prior to the ceremony.

Also, use a travel agent who specializes in destination weddings! There is no way I would have been able to do it all on my own!! lol! I could go on but those on the most important, I think.

How did you feel on your wedding day? What emotion went through you?

I was full of excited energy! I couldn’t wait to have my hair and makeup done and put my beautiful dress on and see my soon to be husbands face!

Before the rain

I’ll forever remember the way the air smelled in the jungle of Koro Sun and the way the moisture felt on my arms and the reed mat felt on my bare feet as I walked walked down the isle. Everyone’s faces, the singing of the choir in the background and Jason’s face as he immediately started to cry. He never cry’s!

How do you live you post wedding life as a couple?

Life is back to usual for us. I manage a pediatric dental office and Jason is a journeyman lineman. We live in Portland, Oregon with our three dogs and just added very feisty little kitten to the mix. Jason has three children who live in Montana, A son who is 23 and two girls 20 and 19.

We very much enjoy the craft beer and cider scene in the pacific northwest and like to attend the festivals in the summers. Jason also works on and builds motorcycles and classic cars.
