Wedding in a private villa, Maui Bay, Fiji

Sophie and Steve had a slightly different idea for their wedding: they wanted to keep it very intimate and loved the idea of a tropical, warm, and beautiful destination, Fiji! It truly was a success; their friends and family traveled from cold Sydney, and they together had a stunning day filled with joy, emotion, and fun!

These were their words:

Why did you choose to get married in a private villa at Maui Bay?

We enjoyed a fantastic holiday here a few years ago, and so we have fond memories of beautiful Fiji. The idea of a destination wedding really interested us because we love to travel, and what better way to escape a cold Sydney winter with family and friends! We also knew we wanted to get married somewhere private. We didn’t like the idea of being in a resort with lots of random people watching us. When we stumbled across Shambala on Airbnb we knew straight away it was the perfect place for our special day.

How was your experience with the catering?

We took a gamble with our catering because we had never tried the food from Taste before. Luckily for us the food was delicious and we were so happy! The team at Taste went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. We first found Taste on bulabride.com, and after some research (Google, Facebook, Instagram) we contacted them both via email and phone. Overall, we found the experience very easy, and would definitely recommend Taste for wedding catering!

Any tips to give for future brides about getting married in Fiji?

Plan ahead! Contact your vendors by email, and be prepared to email and then email again! Sometimes it takes a while to get a response, but keep on top of it and be patient. We found that sometimes a quick phone call was easier to make arrangements.

How did you enjoy the day?

Lots of people told us the day would go fast, and they were right! So our advice would be to make time for each other on the day, take a moment to spend time together, just the two of you. We had such a fun day! Everyone was relaxed (it’s hard not to be in Fiji) but the location (Shambala villa) really helped to set the mood.

After our guests ate lunch, some went for a swim, some lounged around, some danced. There was lots of space to spread out, and there was no set time frame to finish, so we were able to party into the night!

How was your experience with the photographer?

We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. Anais captured our special day so perfectly. Right from the start, she was so professional yet so approachable. We love that she has captured so many candid moments that truly reflect how happy the day was. Thank you so much!

Bride’s dress: Zimmermann, an Australian designer. It was perfect for a garden wedding by the sea – the fabric was light and airy!

Groom’s outfit:  white linen shirt and striped linen shorts – again, perfect for a garden wedding by the sea!

TIPS: Be comfortable on the day, so make sure your outfits are suitable for the Fijian heat.

NB: We went to Maui bay jetty to take some beautiful couple shots!

Groom’s ring: from a designer in Seattle, USA.

Bride’s ring: from a designer in Sydney. Both of them from website etsy.com.au

Enjoy the viewing! And contact Anais for your photo project.
